Marco Polo sheep hunting in Kyrgyzstan is considered one of the most challenging and prestigious mountain hunts in the world. Taking place in the high-altitude Tian Shan ranges, this hunt demands physical endurance, precise shot placement, and deep respect for the animal and terrain. Hunting the Marco Polo ram involves long days of glassing vast alpine landscapes, navigating extreme weather, and making difficult ethical decisions at extended distances. These rams are known for their massive horns, exceptional eyesight, and ability to survive in some of the harshest environments on earth. At Huntourage, we curate fully organized Marco Polo sheep hunts in Kyrgyzstan with experienced local teams, professional guides, and carefully managed concessions. Every detail—from logistics and exceptionally good accommodations, to stalk planning and recovery—is handled to ensure a safe, ethical, and unforgettable mountain hunting experience. This is not a hunt of numbers, but of judgment, patience, and respect—reserved for hunters seeking one of the true icons of global mountain hunting.

How to get there
After arriving in Bishkek, the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, we recommend spending one night in the city to rest and prepare for the expedition ahead. On Day 2, you will be transferred by vehicle for approximately 13–15 hours (Or a 2-hour helicopter ride), depending on the hunting concession and road conditions. The journey takes you through remote mountain regions and high-altitude passes before reaching the hunting area. The final approach to base camp is typically completed by 4x4 vehicles, horses, or on foot, depending on terrain and weather conditions.

In certain areas, helicopter access may be available to reach particularly remote concessions more efficiently.

Hunting Season
Marco Polo sheep hunting in Kyrgyzstan generally takes place from mid-August through mid-December, with the prime season running from mid-November to mid-December when weather conditions, ram movement, and visibility are at their best.

Species
Marco Polo sheep (Argali) are the primary species hunted.
Depending on the area and available permits, additional species may include Mid-Asian ibex, Siberian Roe deer and wolf on an opportunistic basis.

Accommodations and Food
Hunters typically stay in well-established mountain base camps equipped with proper beds, heating, dining tents, generators, and trophy care facilities. Camps are positioned to reduce daily travel time while providing access to prime glassing areas.

A dedicated cook prepares hot, nourishing meals combining local cuisine with familiar European-style dishes to support hunters during long days at altitude.

In more remote concessions or early-season hunts, fly camps may be used. These involve tented accommodations, sleeping bags, and more basic meals, allowing access to untouched terrain and exceptional rams. Hunters choosing this option must be physically fit and mentally prepared for true expedition-style mountain hunting.

Testimonial:

“This Marco Polo hunt in Kyrgyzstan was challenging, demanding, and incredibly rewarding. The terrain, altitude, and long days required real judgment and patience, and the hunt was conducted in a professional and ethical way from start to finish.

What truly stood out was the overall organization and, after long days in the mountains, returning to a lodge that was far more comfortable and refined than anything I’ve experienced elsewhere in Central Asia. It made a real difference over the course of the hunt.”
